Jinja
Situated on the northern shores of Africa’s largest lake, in southern Uganda, Jinja is the second largest city in Uganda and is famous for being located at the source of the Nile. The rapids on the Nile make Jinja the white water rafting capital of East Africa. It is also known as the adventure capital of Uganda. While the main attraction is undoubtedly rafting down the Nile, there are also a variety of other adrenaline filled activities such as: quad biking, bungee jumping, kayaking, mountain biking and horse riding. Other popular activities include: browsing the colourful Jinja market, viewing the faded grandeur of the crumbling colonial architecture lining the streets and joining a bicycle tour to soak up the spectacularly scenic surrounds.

A full day of driving to Jinja, Jinja is a town in southern Uganda, on the shore of Lake Victoria where the source of the Nile can be found. On arrival you will spend the night on the banks of the river Nile in a Safari Tent overlooking the river Nile.

Mount Elgon
Situated along the border of Uganda and Kenya, Mount Elgon is the oldest and largest solitary volcano in East Africa and has one of largest intact calderas in the world. This extinct shield volcano is split by the Uganda/Kenya Border with a Mount Elgon National Park in both countries. It measures an impressive 80 kilometres in diameter and rises over 3000 metres above sea level. Mount Elgon is home to a variety of rare plants and abundant wildlife. The area also offers excellent climbing and walking along Koitobos, the highest peak on the Kenya side, reaching up to 4200 metres.

Full day of travel from Jinja to Sipi falls. You will arrive in the late afternoon. The day will pass through a large part of karamoja on dusty roads and crossing Pian Upe wildlife reserve. After this long journey you will arrive at your hotel where you will enjoy dinner and overnight stay.

Day Itinerary
Today you will be driven through spectacular scenery to Sipi Falls, one of Uganda’s hidden gems. From your lodge you’ll have breathtaking views of the falls as the Sipi River flows down from Mt Elgon.
This afternoon there are numerous excursions you can join or adventure activities that you can participate in. You may wish to join a guided nature walk, hike to one of the nearby waterfalls, visit the coffee plantations or local villages, abseil from the top of Chebonet Falls, join a guided bird-watching excursion or discover the Nyero rock paintings in the Kumi district.

Moroto
Located in Moroto District, the town of Moroto is set in the Northern Region of Uganda. Resting at the foot of the 3,083 metre-high Mount Moroto, the town is known for its cultural tourism, natural surrounding scenery, and abundant wildlife. Visitors can explore Mount Moroto and the surrounding forest reserves of Pian-Upe, Bokora and Matheniko which protect a variety of habitats from dry montane forest to dry savanna inhabited by an array of species including 220 bird species, as well as a collection of monkey and wild cat species and many more. Visitors can explore the network of scenic trails traversing the area, learn about the way of life of the nomadic Karamajong people, and browse a variety of traditional crafts and souvenirs. Other commonly spotted species in the area include: hyenas, buffalos, dik-dik, and the Greater and Lesser Kudus.

Today you’ll drive for approximately six hours to Moroto Town in the northeast region of Uganda where you’ll meet Karamojong tribe people.
We highly recommend that you spend the night in a Karamojong kraal as this is a truly authentic cultural experience which offers an opportunity to interact with Karamojong people and get an insight into their way of life. You’ll be able to help collect vegetables, herd the cattle, prepare dairy products, play local games and listen to the Karamojong warriors tell stories as you sit around a campfire. We’re sure that it will be one of the highlights of your Ugandan adventure!

Northern Queen Elizabeth National Park
One of the most popular parks in Uganda, the Queen Elizabeth National Park lies in the western region of the country. In the northern part of the park, visitors can look forward to boating along the Kasinga Channel, which is home to the largest population of hippos in the world and an abundance of Nile crocodiles. Along the banks, an incredible number of birds and wild animals flock to the river’s edge. At Kyambura Gorge, fondly known as ‘Valley of the Apes’, chimpanzees are at home in a world of lush tropical rainforest spread with canopies, and three salty crater lakes are decorated with swathes of pink flamingos. On the western shore of Lake George, the vast Kasenyi Plains are inhabited by lions and several interesting bird species.

Today you’ll continue your journey well off the beaten track as you drive to Uganda’s most remote national park, Kidepo Valley.
Kidepo Valley National Park is situated between the borders of Kenya and Sudan, in the Karamoja province, in northeast Uganda. With vast savannahs stretching as far as the eye can see, the landscape here is very different to the lush bamboo and swamp forests of Bwindi in southwest Uganda.
This park is a fantastic place to enjoy game viewing and you can expect to see buffalo, elephant, lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, hyena and jackal.

UWA Mweya Campsite is located within the Queen Elizabeth National Park in the south end of the Mweya sector. Accommodation at the campsite features a campground where guests can pitch tents as well as a pit toilet. There is also a nearby restaurant where guests can eat if they do not want to cook for themselves.

Kidepo Valley National Park
One of Uganda’s most stunningly beautiful reserves, the remote Kidepo Valley National Park stretches across broad swathes of savannah studded with hills and rock clusters, and is traversed by the forest-flanked Lorupei River. It is home to roughly 80 mammal species, 28 of which are found at no other park in the country, and is particularly well known for its rich population of raptors and over 450 species of bird. Visitors can look forward to excellent wildlife sightings including greater and lesser kudu, eland, lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant and a variety of plains game.

Today you’ll have a full day to explore Kidepo Valley National Park. You’ll start your day with an early morning game drive to watch the sunrise over the plains and if you’re lucky you’ll see big cats!
Other activities here include exploring the hiking trails around Morungole Mountain, visits to the Kanangorok Hot Springs and guided nature and bird walks.

Murchison Falls National Park
Stretching from the shores of Lake Albert, Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s largest National Park. The Nile River flows through the middle of the park creating the impressive Murchison Falls which is the park’s major attraction. The landscape features dense rainforest, undulating savannah and a diversity of abundant wildlife. Visitors can enjoy prime game-viewing along the Buligi Circuit. The forests are home to numerous primates, including Chimpanzees, and near the river, buffalo, elephants and Rothschild-Giraffes can be seen. Other commonly spotted wildlife include: lions, antelope, waterbucks, hippos and crocodiles.

This morning you’ll leave Kidepo Valley National Park and make your way towards Murchison Falls National Park in northwest Uganda. This is an eight hour drive, however you’ll have the opportunity for plenty of stops along the way, both for rest stops and scenic viewpoints

Murchison Falls National Park

You’ll have the whole day to explore Lake Murchison National Park.
You can enjoy game drives on the plains of the national park where you’ll have a chance to spot giraffe, spotted hyena, lion, leopard, spotted hyena, buffalo, kob and hartebeest, plus you can take a boat tour on the river towards the base of the waterfalls where it meets the Nile. On the banks of the river you’ll see hippo, Nile crocodile, elephant, and if you’re lucky, the elusive leopard. There is prolific birdlife within the area too, including the extraordinary looking shoebill stork.
You’ll also have an opportunity to explore the mighty Murchison Falls either on a boat trip or on foot.

Located on the edge of the Great Rift Valley, the Ugandan town of Hoima lies about 30 kilometres from Lake Albert and serves as a gateway to all the attractions of the lake and the Murchison Falls area. Today you’ll have another long drive through the plantations and mountains that are synonymous with Ugandan countryside. This afternoon you’ll arrive at your lovely lodge in Fort Portal, at the foot of the Rwenzori Mountains and the base of the Kibale Forest.

Day Itinerary
You’ll have an early start this morning as you’ll be required to meet park rangers at 8am for a briefing about your chimp trekking adventure. After the briefing you’ll head deep into the Kibale Forest to track the troops of chimpanzees that live there. As you trek through the dense forest in search of the chimpanzees you’ll hear them screech and hoot around you and it will feel as if the jungle has come alive. Once you’ve found a family of chimpanzees you can spend one hour watching them swing through the trees, play on the forest floor and build nests for their afternoon naps. It is a truly magical experience!
The forest is also home to other primates, including colobus monkeys and red tailed monkeys, plus colourful giant butterflies.
We also recommend the ‘swamp walk’ which is a two hour trek through the swamps to meet a local community living in this hostile environment. There is stunning scenery and some incredibly rare wildlife to spot en route.

Kibale Forest National Park
Located in southern Uganda, Kibale Forest National Park is said to be home to the highest density of primates in Africa. Although the highlight of the park is the habituated chimpanzees, the treetops are alive with all manner of monkey including: red-tailed monkey, L’Hoest’s monkey, grey-cheeked mangabey, red colobus and black and white colobus monkeys are all spotted here. When you’re not searching for monkeys there are over 300 bird species and an incredible 250 species of butterfly to keep you busy. Visitors can look forward to chimpanzee tracking, birding tours and guided nature walks.

Southern Queen Elizabeth National Park
Surrounded by other wonderful parks in the western region of Uganda, the Queen Elizabeth National Park is known for its rich biodiversity, wildlife and history. In the southern part of the park, the remote Ishaha sector is home to tree-climbing lions who spend long lazy days dozing in the pretty fig trees. The Uganda Kob, which they watch from the branches, graze the plains. Around Lake Edward, enjoy fishing and more game watching – make sure to look out for chimpanzees, elephants, crocodiles, and perennial and migratory bird species.

After breakfast at your lodge in you’ll travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park at the base of the Rwenzori Mountain range, adjacent to Lake Edward and Lake George. This spectacular national park is full of game and it is known for its large elephant population.
After checking in to your lodge you’ll head out for an afternoon game drive and a sundowner before dinner.

Kisoro
Situated near the base of the Virunga volcanoes, near Uganda’s border with the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, the little town of Kisoro is primarily used as a base for excursions into the surrounding mountains, which are famous for being one of the only places on earth where you can witness mountain gorillas in the wild. The area is home to an astonishing abundance of wildlife including 11 different species of primate, lion, leopard, giraffe, elephant, buffalo and zebra, and countless bird species. Highlights in the area include: visits to a Pygmy village; swimming or canoeing in the scenic Lake Mutanda; or hiking the spectacular Virunga volcanoes. The town itself hosts a local market where you can buy a wide variety of goods ranging from fresh fruits to fabrics. There are also plenty of shops along Kisoro’s main street, which are known for their skillfully produced handicrafts.

Today we start journey to the home of the gentle giants of Bwindi. This fulfilling journey takes us through the Kigezi highlands with great scenery of terraced hills. After an early breakfast you will drive to the briefing point whereby you will be briefed by the park rangers, the drive is about one hour from Amasiko. After the briefing it is time to start your search for the Mountain Gorilla’s! The duration of the tracking is hard to tell. It depends on the weather, how far are the Gorilla’s, the physical condition of the participants etc. On average a tracking takes about 2 to 4 hours.The highlight of your safari will be meeting the gentle giants of Bwindi National Park! Enjoy the fullness of the impenetrable forest abounding with life, host to several species of birds, butterflies, primates, mammals. Eventually with help of your guide who is also a park ranger, you will find yourself face to face with the enormous and rare mountain gorillas. The trekking experience takes anything from on hour (rarely) to about 8 hours to accomplish. However, you only have one hour with gorillas to capture your finest moment. Suggested activities for those not interested in gorilla tracking is a community village walk or short guided forest walk.

Lake Bunyonyi
Located in southern Uganda, Lake Bunyonyi is said to be the second deepest lake in Africa. Home to a variety of water birds, Lake Bunyonyi is known as the ‘place of little birds’. This spectacularly scenic lake is dotted with magical, mystical, misty islands and surrounded by verdant, undulating, terraced hillsides. It is a popular stop off on the way to the famed gorillas and unlike many lakes in East Africa, it is croc, hippo and bilharzia free. Highlights include camping on one of the islands, the epic scenery, swimming in the lake’s crystal clear waters, bird watching, canoeing, and hiking.
Day Itinerary
You will have an early morning breakfast and move to the Park headquarters to join other trackers in a briefing about the gorilla trekking rules at 7:45 am. You will trek through thick creepers and undergrowth with your guides to find the Gorillas, which can take you 1-8 hours. The steeply forested landscape is incredibly dense but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access by tourists. You will have one hour to stay with the Gorillas once sited and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi. The drive will be through a beautiful part of the country often referred to as ‘the Switzerland of Africa’ because of its unique cool weather despite being near the Equator. This lake is said to be one of the most beautiful places in western Uganda. It is the second deepest lake in Africa [900 meters deep] and also one of the few places in the country where it is considered safe to swim as it is bilharzias free.You arrive at Lake Bunyonyi in the afternoon for relaxation and overnight.

After breakfast this morning you’ll drive to Lake Mburo National Park. This is a small but spectacular national park with plenty of African wildlife, including buffalos, leopards, lions, hyenas, warthogs, giraffes, hippos and crocodiles, plus over 350 bird species.
On arrival at the park you’ll enjoy a game drive, plus you may also have the opportunity for a bush walk or a mountain bike or horse riding safari.

UWA Mweya Campsite is located within the Queen Elizabeth National Park in the south end of the Mweya sector. Accommodation at the campsite features a campground where guests can pitch tents as well as a pit toilet.
