6 Days Zanzibar Beach Holiday
Itinerary
Mangapwani
Situated on the Tanzanian island of Unguja, also known as Zanzibar, the town of Mangapwani lies on the northwest coast of the beautiful island. Mangapwani, meaning Arabian Shore, has a deep history of the black market slave trade. History enthusiasts can visit the Mangapwani Slave Chamber, or Slave Cave, a structure built to keep slaves until they were sold. Visitors can look forward to exploring the Mangapwani Coral Cave, a deep natural cavern said to be a secret hiding place for the illegal slave trade after it was abolished; and stroll along the small but pristine beach along the coast and enjoy a drink under the trees at the beach bar.

Day Itinerary
After an early morning breakfast you will proceed to Jozani Forest:. This forest is best known for its red colobus monkeys, which are endemic to Zanzibar. About 20 years ago, the monkeys were considered to be in danger of extinction. This trend has since reversed due to the conservation project. There are about 6000 red colobus monkeys residing in Jozani Forest. After visiting the red colobus, you will walk across to the Pete-Jozani Mangrove Boardwalk. It entwines through coral thicket vegetation, mangrove forest and across a creek. Stone Town Tour.
After an early morning sumptuous Swahili breakfast, we embark on the Stone Town Tour, this atmospheric and mystical town is the cultural and historical heart of Zanzibar. It was constructed from coral stone during the 19th and 20th century. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 2000. Stone Town is a very lively place where you’ll find a mixture of Arabic, African, Indian and European cultures living comfortably together. As you walk through the labyrinth of streets too narrow for cars to pass, you can see mosques, churches and temples side to side. After that we proceed to the Prison Island . The prison – which is now owned by a hotel – was built in 1893 and was originally intended to house violent prisoners from the mainland and sick people.
You will get the opportunity to visit the tortoise sanctuary, which contains a large colony of giant tortoise imported from the Seychelles in the late 19th century. The average weight of these creatures is 200 kg, and many of them are said to be over 150 years old. There will be a chance to touch the tortoise and take photos. The island is also a home to a colony of beautiful peacocks.
For the rest of the trip you can either enjoy the marine life as you snorkel around the coral that fringes Prison Island or just relax under the warm glow of the sun, until you head back to Stone Town
