Overview

This safari provides you with the experience of some of Africa’s most stunning natural beauty including Lake Manyara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and the Zanzibar Spice Island. You will encounter large varieties of wildlife and indigenous Hadzabe Bushmen at Lake Eyasi and learn about their habits and culture. Itinerary

Arusha 

Resting at the foot of Mount Meru, the sprawling city of Arusha is known as the safari capital of northern Tanzania. It serves as an excellent base from which to explore the remarkably scenic surrounding area which includes majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, as well as the Manyara, Tarangire and Ngorongoro National Parks. Arusha is a good spot to take a day or two off from the safari circuit as it features a temperate climate and lush surrounds. Visitors can look forward to exploring the wildlife-abundant Serengeti National Park; the magnificent Arusha National Park; and taking on the challenge of climbing Mount Meru, Africa’s fifth highest mountain.

Upon arrival at the Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be met by one of our customer service representatives who will assist you with your belongings and take you to Mc Elly’s Hotel. Here you will check-in, enjoy dinner and turn in for the night.

Tarangire National Park 

Tarangire National Park, situated within Tanzania’s spectacular Manyara Region, is an awe-inspiring national park comprising of granite ridges, river valleys, mixed vegetative landscapes, and free-roaming wildlife. During the annual dry season the Tarangire River is a magnet for thirsty wildlife. Large herds of elephants and migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland gather and not surprisingly the predators follow. With lion being among the most commonly spotted animal, it is a rare day that a visitor does not spot this majestic animal prowling or grazing. Tarangire is also the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as oryx and gerenuk are seen regularly. This expansive area is also known for its spectacular baobab trees, its breathtaking views of the Masaai Steppe and the wondrous mountains to the south. 

Day Itinerary 

After an early breakfast, with a picnic lunch in hand, you will drive to Tarangire National Park to witness the famous African elephant population. Here you will have the unique experience of viewing nature combined with the original way of life of the Maasai. Tarangire offers unparalleled game sightings. During the dry season herds of elephant abound. Families of these pachyderms play around the ancient trunks of the baobab trees and strip acacia bark from the thorn trees for their afternoon meal. You will see breath-taking views of the Maasai Steppe and the mountains to the South make a stop at Tarangire a memorable experience. Later in the evening, you will return for dinner and your overnight stay at Tarangire Tortilis Camp. The Octagon Lodge is a small and private lodge located twenty minutes away from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Gate in Tanzania. Ideal for visitors on a private vacation or trip, it is situated amid exotic gardens and provides an ideal base for visitors to the northern parks of Tarangire, Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro. The accommodations at the Octagon Lodge consist of twelve chalets and two stone cottages, as well as 1 large one bedroom unit. Most of the chalets are arranged as twin beds, while some are also arranged as double rooms with queen sized four poster beds. Lake Eyasi 

Tucked between the Kidero Mountains in the south and the Eyasi Escarpment in the north, Lake Eyasi is set in a remote, dry, arid landscape located just south of Tanzania’s renowned Serengeti National Park. This seasonal lake features dry salt beds; a variety of birdlife such as flamingos and pelicans; and is surrounded by woodlands, forests and ancient baobabs. Visitors can learn about local cultures and visit the pastoralist Datoga people as well as the nomadic hunter-gatherer Hadzabe group. Other popular activities include: bird watching, hiking, walking safaris and soaking up the spectacular views. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the nearby Oldeani Mountain, the swampy valley of Yaeda and spectacular Serengeti.

After breakfast you will drive southwest, arriving at the Northern Shore of Lake Eyasi. The drive will continue to the Yaida Valley to a place barely visited by tourists. Here you can find the Hadzabe Bushmen who have make Lake Eyasi and surrounding bush their home. With a local Hadzabe guide, you will pay a visit to their home. These bushmen are nomadic by nature and are the last existing East African hunters and gatherers and still live in the ways of their ancestors. You may participate in local hunting, see the way poison arrows are made, experience how to make fire, or learn about the types of trees used for that purpose. You can learn how to collects honey, learn different types of local medicine used to treat different diseases and many more just to mention a few. Later in the evening, you will head to Lake Eyasi Safari Lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

Located on a gentle slope overlooking the lake, Lake Eyasi Safari Lodge offers stunning views over the seasonal soda lake and up to the Ngorongoro Conservatio Area. The region of Lake Eyasi,South-west of Ngorongoro, is home to the Hadza bushmen, the last survivors of a civilisation that knows nothing of agriculture, livestock, pottery, and metals. They live by hunting with bows and arrows, and gathering wild berries and fruits. They are the last heirs of the homines sapientes who took their first steps right here, along the Rift Valley, about two hundred thousand years ago. 

Their way of life has remained unchanged over the millennia and they live in small wandering groups of about twenty individuals. The Hadza people of Lake Eyasi are the heirs of the very first human beings, the kids of Olduvai Gorge and Koobi Fora who still have a symbiotic relationship with the environment, the purest example of anarchic society with no rules, no chief, no dont’s.

Seronera 

The Seronera region, in the central Serengeti, is set directly on the Great Migration route, and offers excellent viewing of this incredible annual phenomenon, when countless wildebeest flood across the plains. While migratory game populations fluctuate seasonally, Seronera is still a wildlife hotspot at other times of the year, sheltering the Big Five, among many other species. A number of small campsites provide accommodation and visitors can enjoy hot air balloon trips and walking safaris as well as guided game drives. 

Day Itinerary 

After an early breakfast, you will check-out, with your picnic lunch in hand, and drive from Lake Eyasi to the famous Serengeti National Park; enjoying an exciting game drive along the way. On the drive you will have a chance to see the “Big Five” and the annual migration of wildebeest; depending on the season you are traveling. Since you will have more time in Serengeti you can follow Migration if it’s not far from central Serengeti. In the evening you will take part in a game drive before heading to Kananga Special Tented Camp for dinner and your overnight stay. Ngorongoro Crater

This enchanting park is noted for its beauty and incredibly lush acacia forest of giant fig and mahogany trees, which are home to troops of baboons and blue monkeys. It is very famous for its stunning bird variety. The park is also home to a large number of buffalos, giraffes, elephants, impalas, and a Hippo lake, where large numbers of hippos usually gather. This park has become famous for its tree-climbing lions and the flamingos in the lakeshore. The game drives are done along the shore of the lake, providing incredible views of animals in the foreground with the lake, flamingos, and flat plains on the horizon.
