The Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a 360 km2 (140 sq mi) not-for-profit wildlife conservancy in Central Kenya’s Laikipia County. Situated on the equator west of Nanyuki, between the foothills of the Aberdares and Mount Kenya. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy works to conserve wildlife, provide a sanctuary for great apes and to generate income through wildlife tourism and complementary enterprises for re-investment in conservation and community development.

The Conservancy boasts the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, and in 2013 reached a population milestone of 100 black rhino. It also houses the two remaining northern white rhino in the world, who were moved here from Dvůr Králové Zoo in the Czech Republic. The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary is situated here and provides a haven for orphaned, abandoned and, rescued chimpanzees. It is the only place in Kenya where these great apes can be seen. The Conservancy is host to the ‘Big five game” among a large selection of other African animals, which makes it a popular safari destination. It also operates a successful livestock program, which serves to benefit local pastoralists and wildlife. Through the conservancy’s community development program, Ol Pejeta provides funding to surrounding communities to aid health, education, water and, infrastructure projects. Masai Mara

The Masai Mara together with Tanzania’s Serengeti form Africa’s most famous wildlife park, the Masai Mara National Reserve. The image of acacia trees dotting endless grass plains epitomises Africa for many, then add a Maasai warrior and some cattle to the picture and the conversation need go no further. The undeniable highlight of the Masai Mara National Reserve is undoubtedly the annual wildebeest migration traversing the vast plains of the Serengeti and the Masai Mara. It is known as the largest mass movement of land mammals on the planet – with more than a million animals following the rains. Large prides of lions, elephants, giraffes, gazelles and eland can also be spotted in the reserve. Aside from horse riding safaris and traditional vehicle safaris, hot-air ballooning over the Mara plains has become almost essential.

Day Itinerary

After Breakfast at the camp you will proceed to Lake Naivasha for a wildlife viewing boat ride in the lake for about an hour to Crescent Island Game Sanctuary.

Crescent Island Game Sanctuary is located on Lake Naivasha, in the Great Rift Valley, Kenya. It is one of the most beautiful parks in Kenya and is Naivasha’s best-kept secret. Surrounded by water, it is actually a peninsula and is accessible by boat from East or West as well as by road. It’s the best place to spend the morning, afternoon, or bring a picnic and spend the whole day with the beautiful birds and graceful animals. The shores host abundant birdlife including pelicans, cormorants, and fish-eagles with their haunting cry. There are more animals per acre than any other Kenyan Park, hence many film companies have been to the Island to film the herds of Wildebeest, Waterbuck, Zebra, and Gazelle. The Island is not fenced to allow the wildlife on the mainland to come in as they lose their habitat to development and the ever-increasing population. Hippo graze all over at night then sleep under the acacia or rest in the water by day. The giraffe who was born on the Island return to give birth; sometimes you see three generations at a time. Hyena come to hunt at night but are not resident on the island. The many python, who do live here, can be seen occasionally with a kill. Groups of Buffalo come and go but they are always monitored. From the top of the hill, there is a 360-degree view across the Lake from Longonot to Hell’s Gate to the Mau Escarpment to Eburu and onto the Aberdares. Walking along the ridge in the golden hour before sunset whilst watching the animals grazing with the water shimmering beyond, is what Africa is all about.

After an amazing morning at the Crescent Island Game Sanctuary you will proceed to the Camp for lunch and depart Naivasha for the world-famous Masai Mara Game Reserve via the Great Rift Valley. En-route enjoy the beautiful scenery. Arrive at your lodge in time for dinner and overnight.
